MISFIT IN LOVE also explores and deepens the relationship Janna has with her parents. It’s an interesting love square that I had a ton of fun reading as Janna explored the possibility of love as well as love itself.

I love how both their personalities just fit so well into Janna’s narrative and each go to show how they would complement her personality so well. Haytham and Layth from the synopsis are definitely some of my new favorites. In this fresh sequel, we’re introduced to a completely new cast of characters (as well as most of the old characters). Nuah is a character we knew from SAINTS AND MISFITS, but I wouldn’t say you have to read that one to understand his character. This is the summer right before college for Janna and she’s super excited for some change, and that might mean with the boy she really likes, Nuah. MISFIT IN LOVE picks up a few years after where SAINTS AND MISFITS left off and takes us straight to the Muslim wedding of the year for Janna’s brother Muhammad and his fiancée Sarah. I always finish her work feeling so happy, inspired, and represented. Ali’s books, charm perhaps, that many other young adult books just lack. Thank you to Hear Our Voices Book Tours and Simon Teen for an advance copy of MISFIT IN LOVE. Janna’s summer of love is turning out to be super crowded and painfully unpredictable. Just when things couldn’t get more complicated, two newcomers-the dreamy Haytham and brooding Layth-have Janna more confused than ever about what her misfit heart really wants. Muhammad’s party choices aren’t in line with his fiancée’s taste at all, Janna’s dad is acting strange, and her mom is spending more time with an old friend (and maybe love interest?) than Janna. It’s time for Janna’s (carefully planned) summer of love to begin-starting right at the wedding.īut it wouldn’t be a wedding if everything went according to plan. She’s finished high school, ready for college…and ready for Nuah. The last time she saw him, Janna wasn’t ready to reciprocate his feelings for her. Janna Yusuf is so excited for the weekend: her brother Muhammad’s getting married, and she’s reuniting with her mom, whom she’s missed the whole summer.
